The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the seventh and final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held tomorrow, December 19, 2023. This phase will see polling in 543 constituencies across 12 states and one Union Territory.
In a historic move, the ECI has extended the facility of home voting to eligible voters across the country for the first time in a general election. This facility will be available to senior citizens aged 80 years or above, persons with disabilities, and COVID-19 patients. To avail this facility, voters need to apply online or through their respective polling stations.
The ECI has made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and fair polling. Over 10 lakh polling booths have been set up across the country, and more than 100 lakh security personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order. The ECI has also launched a mobile application called "Voter Helpline" to provide real-time information to voters about their polling booths and other election-related matters.
The counting of votes will take place on December 23, 2023. The results of the election will determine which party or coalition will form the next government of India.
